It produces a fixed (constant) [voltage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voltage "Voltage") regardless of power supply variations, temperature changes, or circuit loading from a device. Commonly outputs 1.25V (1.22eV bandgap of silicon at 0K, hence the name).  A current proportional to absolute temperature (PTAT) is generated using the voltage difference between two [PN Junctions](PN%20Junction.md).
