# Fixed channel assignment Simplified channels which don't change over time or a function over time. The same frequency channel is assigned according to the reuse pattern to minimise [co-channel interference](co-channel%20interference.md) ## Assigning frequency channels Channels adjacent in the frequency domain: 1. are not in the same cells 2. are not in neighbouring cells if possible This minimises the adjacent channel interference. There is a tradeoff, you do want to keep channels grouped a little. Each cell has only a fraction (1/N) of the total bandwidth (all available channels). ## Drawbacks ### Lack of flexibility Call may be blocked if all the frequency channels assigned to that cell are currently being used, even if other frequency channels are available - [inefficient trunking](inefficient%20trunking.md) [^1] # References [^1]: [TELE4652-lecture-01](../../03%20-%20University/TELE4652/Lectures/TELE4652-lecture-04.pdf)
